About String Orchestra

A string orchestra course - or rather, two courses in one! (see below) - with the sections led by members of the Tedesca Quartet.

What is the course about?

Nic Fallowfield will lead and direct the orchestra with colleagues from the Tedesca Quartet – Clare Bhabra, Richard Muncey and Jenny Curtis – at the front of the other sections. By playing alongside professional players you will find there is always plenty of support, encouragement and guidance available. We tackle a wide of range of repertoire, but even if you think you can't manage every note, come along and relish the opportunity to explore, learn and immerse yourself in this year’s music.

The repertoire for the full course is being finalised and will be announced soon, but on Wednesday we will welcome additional players who are only able to join us for the day. This year the focus of the day course is Stravinsky, with us delving into his neoclassical ballet score Apollo, a work one commentator described as embodying the 'essence of classicism'. (The day course runs 10am-5pm on the Wednesday; those on the full course have the opportunity to play chamber music that evening.)

What will you learn?

The repertoire for the full course will be announced soon. On Wednesday we will explore Stravinsky’s Apollo.

By the end of the course you will feel that you know a great deal more about our set works and their inner workings.

How will the course be taught?

The course will focus on tutti sessions, although some sectional work may be necessary.

Who is the course for?

Ability: Confident, Skilful

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

Information about accessing the sheet music, and how to prepare for the course, will be shared with participants in advance of the start date.

A friendly but professionally led course.

The rapport between the tutors and their open and encouraging attitude to participants made the course most enjoyable.

Amazing music, and amazing tutors, so we achieved far above what we could ever hope on our own.
