String Orchestra

Nic Fallowfield will lead and direct the orchestra with sectional guidance from his colleagues from the Tedesca Quartet – Clare Bhabra, Richard Muncey and Jenny Curtis – and double bassist Caroline Harding. By playing alongside professional players you will find there is always plenty of support, encouragement and guidance available. We tackle a wide of range of repertoire, but even if you think you can't manage every note, come along and relish the opportunity to explore, learn and immerse yourself in this year’s music. 

The repertoire for the course this year is: 

SUK Serenade for Strings in E flat major, Op.6 

WARLOCK Capriol Suite 

SIBELIUS  Romance in C, Op.42 

On Wednesday we will also welcome additional players who are only able to join us for the day to focus on Stravinsky’s neoclassical ballet score Apollo, a work one commentator described as embodying the 'essence of classicism'. (The day course runs 9.15am-5pm on the Wednesday; those on the full course have the opportunity to play chamber music that evening.) 

By the end of the course you will feel that you know a great deal more about our set works and their inner workings. 

The course will focus on tutti sessions, although some sectional work may be necessary.
