Viol Discovery Day

About Viol Discovery Day
Want to know if the viol is for you? Join us for this discovery day course in which tutors provide an introduction to the instrument, basic playing techniques and rich repertoire. The course also includes a ticket to the evening's Rose Consort of Viols concert. No previous string playing experience required. The course starts at 10am and ends with an evening concert by the Rose Consort of Viols (7.30pm–approx. 9.30pm)
What is the course about?
On this one-day course you will get a full introduction to the viol and find out more about the instrument, its history, how it is played, and the music you could explore as a viol player. Designed specifically for those who do not currently own or play the viol (at all, or regularly), a specialist tutor will lead sessions tailored to help you learn more and see if the instrument is for you.
This runs alongside the much-loved Summer Viols course and so Benslow will be focused on all things viol with professional players and keen amateurs all celebrating the instrument on campus.
As part of the Discovery Day, you will receive a ticket to the evening concert by the world-renowned Rose Concert of Viols and so get to hear the instrument played at the very top level.
There is also the option to book a B&B room for an additional fee on campus if you would like to stay the night before the course, or after the concert. To discuss room options and availability, please contact 01462 459446.
