Job Description

Main responsibilities include:

Programmes

  • Oversee and strategically develop an ever-evolving and balanced annual programme of music education opportunities onsite and online, including courses, concerts, loan scheme and other projects, working closely with the Chief Executive, Head of Benslow Music Instrument Loan Scheme and Courses & Concerts Producer.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, developing relationships with tutors, artists and partner organisations. Manage the acquisition and use of musical equipment and instruments, ensuring they are maintained to an appropriately high standard.
  • Oversee the work of the volunteer Library team, ensuring good processes are in place to support the management and enhancement of the collection.

Strategic development and leadership

  • Work closely with the Chief Executive to ensure strategic alignment between Benslow Music’s strategy and programmes, contributing to Benslow Music’s strategic development and business planning.
  • Lead the team and freelance tutors, ensuring excellent standards of programmes and consistently high levels of participant and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Manage the performance of team members, supporting professional development and providing regular feedback and appraisal.

Budget management

  • Prepare and manage programme budgets, ensuring value for money.
  • Closely monitor the financial performance of courses, concerts, the Instrument Loan Scheme and other projects.

Marketing and Development

  • Support effective marketing, communications and fundraising activities at Benslow Music, working closely with colleagues and providing specialist insight and knowledge.

You will be a self-starter with an eye for detail and the ability to work flexibly. Someone who values working in a collaborative and supportive environment, you will be a good problem solver, capable of working autonomously, providing sound judgement and acting with discretion.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in programme and project management, particularly in delivering music or music education projects, and experience in adult amateur music-making.
  • Breadth and depth of musical knowledge to be credible with a range of stakeholders, with networks and connections in the music/music education sector.
  • Experience of working as a senior manager (or equivalent) contributing to the strategic development of programmes or organisations with exceptional people skills.
  • A deep understanding and appreciation of Benslow Music’s mission and ethos, a breadth of musical knowledge, and a demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrable understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
