The Rose Quartet
Ensemble
The Rose Consort of Viols is named after a celebrated family of sixteenth-century viol makers, whose instruments flourished alongside the rise of English consort music. With its distinctive blend of intimacy, intricacy and passion, the ensemble brings to life repertoire from Taverner and Byrd to Lawes, Locke and Purcell. For nearly four decades, the Rose Consort has performed across the UK, Europe and North America, appearing at major venues and festivals including Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre, York Early Music Festival, and events in Boston, New York, Vancouver and Hawaii.
Using period instruments and historically informed techniques — from early Bolognese viols to Tudor and Stuart copies — the ensemble revives the sound world of the past. Its acclaimed discography spans more than 20 recordings on Delphian, Deux-Elles, Naxos and other labels.
