Last year we had a hugely rewarding and enjoyable course tackling Tchaikovsky: this year we will be focusing on another of the great masterpieces of the string orchestra repertoire, Dvorak’s Serenade for Strings. With professional players at the front of each section there is always plenty of support so even if you think you can’t quite manage all of the notes come along anyway and relish taking part in such glorious music. For those who are not able to manage the full course, Wednesday 26 April will be an opportunity to join the orchestra to rehearse and perform the extraordinarily moving Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No 5. Our guest harpist for the day, Oliver Cope, will also be playing Debussy’s Danse Sacré et Danse Profane for strings and harp, a truly ravishing piece, not to be missed.
