Donate or lend an instrument

The Benslow Music Instrument Loan scheme is a charity, and we rely upon the generosity of our donors and lenders to provide much needed quality instruments for young musicians across the UK. By sharing your instruments with us, you’ll be helping the next generation to shine.
If you have a quality instrument in good condition, we would love to hear from you.
How your instrument can help
Your instrument really can change the life of a talented young musician, giving them newfound confidence and opportunities to progress. Many young players don’t have the means to access the quality instruments that can help them develop.
Luthier-made instruments have a much richer tone, enabling students to make a better sound and improve their technique. This gives them confidence and inspires them to grow. Many of our young borrowers go on to study music at University or Conservatoire level, with alumni including several BBC Young Musician of the Year finalists, an RPS award-winner and a BBC Guardian Young Composer.
"My parents adored music and supporting the development of young musicians. They would, were they here, be as delighted was I to know that their cello is loved and played and is helping a young musician to grow and flourish."
Create a lasting connection
We encourage our borrowers and lenders to keep in touch with one another and share stories of their musical progress – so you can share in a piece of musical history across generations, while nurturing new friendships.
Give your instrument a new lease of life
Nearly all instruments given to us have a history or a special story to tell. One French violin in the collection survived being taken to the trenches in the First World War. Its owner carried it in his backpack and played it to his fellow soldiers to entertain them.
Lending or donating your instrument will ensure that its journey continues and benefits many young people, whilst also ensuring its quality and condition is maintained for years to come.
"In April this year I was introduced to my Benslow loan cello and bow. I have learnt a lot about the owners through the letters we write to each other and I hope the owners have learnt a lot about me."
