About Late Starter Strings Instrumental Lessons - Summer

Have you always wished you could play the violin, viola, cello or double bass, but never had the chance to begin? Our Later Starter Strings programme is the perfect place to take your first step. Designed specifically for adults who are new to their instrument, or have played in the past on the same or different instrument and would like to revisit their musical journey. These supportive and fun weekly sessions can be individual, in pairs or in groups. They’ll help you build skills with guidance from our patient and experienced tutors.

What is the course about?

Weekly sessions
Weekly lessons during term time which are easy to fit around your schedule.

Expert, encouraging tutors
Our tutors specialise in working with adult beginners. They understand what starting to learn an instrument feels like and will support you to succeed.

A friendly, no pressure environment
No auditions, no judgement - just music-making at your own pace.

Build confidence from the very first note
You’ll be supported to develop your posture, bowing, rhythm, and reading. There is no previous experience of reading music required.

Time for you in a space devoted to music
Everything about Benslow Music is centred around creating music learning opportunities that empower people to grow, find joy and build connections.

What will you learn?

We’ll cover the basics of getting started with your instrument, from posture, hold and note production to rhythm, tuning and bowing. As you progress, we’ll keep working on your technique and other skills alongside learning pieces to play, helping you grow in ability and confidence.

How will the course be taught?

It’s never too late to learn. We know the experience of taking the leap as an adult can feel a bit daunting. We focus on providing a fun, safe and supportive environment to learn. Our tutors are encouraging and have lots of experience with late starters and will adapt their teaching style to your needs. They will help you to enjoy your instrument, build confidence and start to make music more quickly than you could have imagined.
