What is the course about?

Indulge your love of polyphonic music on this course led by experts in renaissance music, Jeremy West and Gareth Wilson. 

 

What will you learn?

Through this course you will gain understanding of the unique style and techniques of renaissance performance, as well as learning the historical context of this music. You will deep-dive into this renaissance world through ensemble performance for tutti voices and winds, as well as works for choir and wind ensemble separately. 

 

How will the course be taught?

You will work both as a large combined ensemble and in smaller vocal and wind ensembles.

 

Who is the course for?

This course is suitable for cornetts, sackbutts, dulcians and singers across all voices. Previous experience of reading Renaissance polyphony will be helpful although not essential and the ability to read historic notation is not a requirement since all pieces will be provided in clean modern editions. 

As a course best for those of a Confident or Skilful standard, as detailed in the Benslow Guide to Ability Levels, participants should be a confident sight readers.

 

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

Music will be provided by the course tutors on arrival here at Benslow. You don't need to provide anything.

 

The choice of music was great. The tutors very friendly and creating a good atmosphere amongst the two groups (instruments/singers).
