Barbara Alden
Voice
Barbara Alden trained at Trinity College of Music, now Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She has performed as a soloist and an ensemble singer and is a founder performing member with The Vocal Constructivists, a group specialising in experimental music, interpreting graphic scores, performance poetry and related Performing Arts.
Her extensive experience as a singing teacher ranges from professional students to amateurs from age 6 to over 80! She has held teaching posts at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, Adult Education organisations and schools.
In 2017 she was one of the judges for the preliminary round of the Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition.
She has directed choirs and in addition has trained children performing at Glyndebourne, Royal Opera, ENO, National Theatre and RSC. She has also been voice coach for some adult and youth theatre companies.
Her article ‘Release Your Voice’ was published in The Choral Singer’s Companion (Thames/Elkin 2000) and she has given workshops on the subject to choral, drama and personal development groups. Her work includes reviving strained and damaged voices and the therapeutic aspects of Voice for meditation and well-being.
She enjoys writing poetry, practising Qi Gong and walking amongst trees. She also values the importance of laughter and celebrates life’s - and art’s - quirkiness.
