Catarina Costa e Silva

Founder and Artistic Director of Portingaloise, ensemble and festival of Early Dance and Music (portingaloise.pt). Performer of contemporary and early dance, singer, choreographer and stage director. Collaborated with several Portuguese and foreign groups such as Ensemble Clepsidra, Ensemble Elyma, Udite Amanti, Divino Sospiro, Capella Sanctae Crucis, Il Dolcimelo, O Bando do Surunyo, Baroque Orchestra of Casa da Música, under the direction of Gabriel Garrido, Laurence Cummings, among others. Stage or choreographic directior in the following productions: Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda by C. Monteverdi (Lisbon, 2007); Ballet de la Raillerie by J.B. Lully (Porto, 2014); Acis e Galatea by G.F. Haendel (Rota do Românico, 2014); Dido & Aeneas by H. Purcell (Porto, Santiago de Compostela, 2016), Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme by J. B. Lully (Lisbon, 2010), Daphnis et Eglé by J. Ph Rameau (Ponte de Lima, 2023). Direction and interpretation in creations by Ensemble Portingaloise: KINSKI (Paris, 2018), Auto do Labirinto (ou Labirinto do Amor (Porto, 2018), Marie Sallé, Terpsícore de Haendel (Porto, 2019), Os Gestos cantam na dança libertados (Coimbra, 2020), Balle de las Danças (Porto, 2021), Assembleia Dançante (Porto, 2022), Do Tento à Tentação (w/ La Floreta and FM Jalôto, Porto, 2023 and Brasil, 2025). Founding member of the Ibero-American Group for the Study of Historical Dance and member of the European Association for Dance History. Early Dance and Drama teacher at the Early Music Department at Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo - Porto; occasional teacher at different institutions such as Early Music Week at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brasil), European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO), Academia Ludovice and Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Studied Early Dance with Béatrice Massin, Bruna Gondoni, Catherine Turocy, Cecília Gracio Moura, Cecília Nocilli, Diana Campóo, Françoise Denieau, Jürgen Schrape, Marie Geneviève Massé, Ricardo Barros and others; and Baroque Gesture with Béatrice Cramoix, Jean-Denis Monory. Professional dance course at Ginasiano; degree in Art History at University of Porto; graduated in singing by ESMAE; Master in Music-Theater Studies at University of Sheffield; PhD student in Artistic Studies and member of Centro de Estudos Clássicos e Humanísticos at University of Coimbra.
