    Richard Edgar-Wilson

    Voice

    Richard Edgar-Wilson has worked as a tenor soloist around the world for over 40 years, collaborating with many of the best conductors including Vladimir Jurowski, Richard Hickox, Jeffrey Tate, Edward Gardner, Mark Minkowski, Roger Norrington, Trevor Pinnock, Jane Glover, Philipe Herreweghe, Neville Marriner, John Wilson, Raymond Leppard, and Charles Mackerras.

    On the opera stage he has sung Tamino in Portugal and New Zealand, Acis in Toronto and London, and Death in Venice for ENO and in Amsterdam, Brussels, Luxembourg and at La Scala, Milan.

    As a recitalist he has partnered Graham Johnson and The Songmakers’ Almanac, Roger Vignoles, Iain Burnside, David Owen Norris, Eugene Asti, Malcolm Martineau, Julius Drake and Martin Katz. He has made over fifty solo recordings including Messiah, Stradella San Giovanni Battista (winner of a Gramophone Award), Die Schöne Müllerin, Winter Words, On Wenlock Edge, Mozart Requiem and works by Arne, Monteverdi (with the Consort of Musicke), Purcell, Boyce, Howard Blake, and Bernard Herrmann amongst many others.

    Richard’s was the very first voice to be heard at Grange Park Opera House and he appeared as Radames in an award-winning Scandinavian feature film. He has sung on numerous Hollywood movies including the final Harry Potter and Hobbit films, James Bond Spectre, Mission Impossible and the Fantastic Beasts movies.

    Much in demand as a singing teacher, vocal coach and adjudicator, he has given master classes in Austria, America and Singapore, and at Dartington, the Britten-Pears School and for twelve years at Benslow. He writes reviews and articles for a variety of musical publications and for four years was Treasurer of the multi-disciplinary British Voice Association. In 2017 was delighted to be presented with an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Suffolk.
