Susannah Rance

Susannah grew up in Cardiff, learning the double bass with Mary Condliffe (Welsh National Opera) and playing in local youth ensembles. She now studies at the Royal College of Music and is grateful to be taught by Rodrigo Moro Martin (principal bassist London Symphony Orchestra). She especially loves training as an orchestral musician and has taken part in side-by-side projects with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and English National Ballet. 

This year, she enjoyed leading the bass section of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales for the first time with conductor Andrew Gourlay, where she received the Irwyn Walters Award for the Most Promising String Player. Her favourite concert to date was with the RCM Symphony Orchestra at the Snape Maltings Concert Hall; in May she performed with them again at the Queen Elizabeth Hall under the baton of Kahchun Wong.

For her first two years at conservatoire, Susannah played a 19th century French instrument kindly loaned to her by the Benslow Music's Instrument Loan Scheme.
