What is the course about?
Discover the joy and beauty of Bach’s Cello Suites. Composed between 1717 - 1723, these six suites are some of the most enduring and loved solo cello pieces ever written. Join cellist and tutor Jenny Curtis to explore a suite of your choice in this group masterclass and immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Bach’s music. Together we’ll gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of these masterpieces, so you’ll leave with a fresh confidence in your playing.

How will the course be taught?
This course is run in a relaxed masterclass format, so you’ll have the chance to learn from others in the group as well as from feedback and insights on your playing. You’ll be able to workshop one or more movements from any Bach Cello Suite of your choice. We encourage you to listen actively and respond thoughtfully to your fellow performers.
Who is the course for?
This course is open to confident and skilful cellists, as detailed in our Benslow Guide to Standards. You’ll need to be comfortable playing through a movement from a suite in front of the group and exploring it together in an open lesson format.
Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?
You’ll need to choose one of Bach’s Cello Suites and prepare one or more movements from it to play in the masterclass. Please bring your own music with you. You can find music on the IMSLP or our Benslow Music Library.
