About Cello Workshop

Develop your solo performance skills in this hands on and supportive cello workshop led by cellist and teacher, Jenny Curtis.

What is the course about?

Gain confidence performing as a solo cellist in this relaxed group workshop led by fantastic tutor Jenny Curtis. The course gives you the opportunity to fine-tune your solo playing and immerse yourself in the musicality of your performance. We’ll look at helpful tips and practical techniques you can use to overcome technical issues and challenges with your playing, and encourage one another in a friendly group setting. The workshop is perfect for helping you prepare for upcoming exams, performances or showcases - and you can choose any music you’d like to work on.

What will you learn?

By the end of the course, you will: Fine-tune your cello playing with expert, tailored advice Feel more confident performing both solo and with piano accompaniment. Learn tips to help you prepare physically and psychologically for your performances. Improve your performance style and learn how to project musical ideas into your playing.

How will the course be taught?

​We’ll work as a group, with morning sessions dedicated to technical warm ups, and afternoons for workshopping your chosen musical pieces. Jenny will offer supportive feedback on your performance and encourage the group to also share their thoughts, so we can all learn from one another.

Who is the course for?

The course is open to all cello players from grade 3 and up who are looking to develop their solo performance skills.

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

You’ll need to choose three pieces to work on during the course, and be prepared to play them in front of the group. We'll ask to know your music at least three weeks in advance of the course, and you should bring along your own copies for the course.
