About Clarinet Fest
A welcoming and relaxed clarinet course full of ensemble playing with Paul Harris, Helen Pierce and Hannah Shimwell.
What is the course about?
Clarinet Fest offers the opportunity for clarinettists of all abilities to come together in a weekend of ensemble playing. Regardless of whether you're an emerging or more advanced player, you'll discover wide-ranging repertoire and collaborate with other clarinettists in a supportive environment.
Your route through the course will be matched to your ability level. With a range of workshops and clarinet choirs designed to comfortably stretch you, as well as sessions focusing on technique and musicianship.
What will you learn?
By the time you leave, you’ll have played a wide range of music, hopefully gaining more confidence in yourself as a performer and an ensemble member.
Technically, you’ll have worked on sightreading, balance, intonation, listening and responding while working within various small and large ensembles.
How will the course be taught?
You'll play in small groups and full choir sessions. Players looking for extra support can join classes focused on sound production and intonation, where your tutors will help build the confidence and skills you need to step into the larger ensembles.
In those bigger sessions, expert clarinettists will be on hand throughout, so everyone’s improving their performance.
Who is the course for?
The course is open to clarinettists of all playing levels. Please see our Ability Levels Explained for further details.
We expect most people will be playing the B flat clarinet. If you are planning to bringing a variation (A, C, E flat) or a bass clarinet, please let us know on your application.
Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?
Music will be provided by the tutors during the course. All you need to bring is you and your clarinet(s)!
