What is the course about?
Discover a rich variety of string chamber repertoire and experience the thrill of playing together with other musicians in this welcoming course led by Clare Bhabra, Jenny Curtis, Nic Fallowfield and Richard Muncey of the Tedesca Quartet. You’ll get the chance to work closely with other players in a wide variety of groupings from trios and quartets to sextets, with helpful guidance throughout from our tutors.
Come away feeling inspired, with greater confidence in your playing - and make new friends along the way!
What will you learn?
By the end of the course you will:
Develop your string ensemble playing skills and meet new, like-minded players.
Improve your musical interpretation and rhythmic accuracy with helpful tips and techniques from our friendly tutors.
Make musical discoveries, playing through a range of popular and lesser known repertoire - and gain confidence playing new works.
How will the course be taught?
You’ll get the chance to work in a variety of groupings from trios to sextets, working through a range of new repertoire. The tutors will arrange the groups for each session - you’ll receive tailored coaching for the first half, before having time to rehearse as a group. Violinists will be encouraged to try both 1st and 2nd violin parts.
Who is the course for?
This course is open to individual string players of the violin, viola, and cello who are looking to develop their chamber music skills. We recommend a standard of Grade 6 and above, with the ability to sight-read.
Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?
We’ll share the music with you at least a month in advance to give you time to familiarise yourself with the pieces. We recommend some individual rehearsal of the music before you arrive so that we can make the most of our time playing together on the course.
