About Late Starter Cello Retreat

What is the course about?

Unleash your creativity in this joyful weekend course for adult cellists, led by our experienced and supportive tutor Jenny Curtis. If you are just starting out in your cello playing journey, this is the perfect opportunity to spend a weekend playing alongside other like-minded musicians and grow your confidence in a friendly and supportive environment. We’ll be working together in a large group, so you can experience playing a range of exciting music together with other cellists in an ensemble. Jenny will guide you through the music, helping you to rehearse pieces in more depth to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of them. You’ll discover techniques to help you practice more effectively, and leave with a renewed confidence in your ability, inspired to keep growing.

By the end of the course you will: Be introduced to a range of beautiful cello music, with guidance from our expert tutor Jenny Curtis. Gain helpful tips and techniques to practice more effectively. Enjoy a celebratory weekend of music-making with other late starter cellists in a relaxed and beautiful setting. You’ll leave feeling more confident to play both solo and in group settings, and above all, have had a lot of fun!

How will the course be taught?

We’ll work together in a large group throughout, working through a range of set pieces. There’ll be plenty of time for questions and help with individual challenges and technique.

Who is the course for?

For adult cello players at beginner and improver levels who are looking for helpful tips and techniques to improve their playing, practice and ensemble skills.

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

We’ll share the music with you a week or so before the course, but no preparation is necessary as we’ll learn the pieces together. Please bring your instrument and cello spike, along with any necessary items for upkeep such as rosin, spare strings etc. A pencil and eraser are also helpful.
