About Late Starter Cello Weekend

A unique opportunity to spend a weekend playing the cello ensemble music with others in an encouraging and supportive environment.

What is the course about?

This is a course specifically for cellists who are late starters or still early in their learning of the cello and who would like to grow in confidence.

Across the weekend, tutor Jenny Curtis offer gentle encouragement while leading you in playing cello ensemble music together, exploring the challenges of playing in groups and discussing the techniques of playing the cello.

What will you learn?

The course will focus on aspects of cello technique and ensemble playing.

By the end of this course you will be able to: rehearse pieces in more depth and to apply any techniques discussed. Hopefully over the weekend you will have gained the confidence to “let yourself go” so you can play and think about the music and not worry so much about accuracy of notes.

How will the course be taught?

You will stay together as one large cello ensemble throughout the weekend, working on set course repertoire.

Who is the course for?

The course is designed for cellists playing at the Learner or Improver levels. Please see our Ability Levels Explained for further details.

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

Music will be sent out ahead of the course, with parts allocated to help with you preparation.

In addition to your instrument, please bring your spike holder, a pencil suitable for making markings and a notebook for any notes your wish to make.

“Brilliant! Jenny Curtis is a quite outstanding teacher. The music was very well chosen and enjoyable to play with the right amount of difficulty to keep us all on our toes. I loved every minute of the course.”
