How to apply

We’re so pleased you are thinking about borrowing an instrument from us.

Please download and read the Terms and Conditions carefully. We’re happy to help if you have any questions.

Then you’ll need to download and complete an application form which will need input from the student and their guarantor.

  • Remember to include the financial information, documentation and video evidence
  • When we’ve accepted your application, we will contact your music teacher directly for a reference
  • Once all the paperwork is done, we will send you a calendar link to book an appointment at a time that suits you at our campus in Hitchin, Hertfordshire

If you need any help with your application, please contact us.

Arranging a date to visit us

  • If your application is successful, you will be invited to an appointment to try a selection of instruments
  • Appointments are offered Monday-Friday, and some Saturdays, usually at 11am or 2pm
  • There is often a wait of a few weeks for an instrument depending on the instrument and availability
  • Plan to spend up to two hours with us. We have a dedicated studio (with a piano) where you can work with the instruments in comfort and privacy.

What you need to bring to your appointment

  • Your guarantor must come with you to your appointment
  • Please bring your current instrument, bow and some music with you - this will help you make a comparison
  • We will need to see 2 forms of identification; photographic proof of the guarantor's identity and address at the appointment. This could be a current passport or driving licence, and a utility bill or bank statement
  • If you are over 18 you will also need to provide proof of identity and address
  • Other family members and teachers are welcome to come to the appointment, but bear in mind that we only have space for two or three people per family
  • Please also bring a method of payment for your deposit. Card payments are preferred (Amex not accepted)

Making your decision

  • We aim to give all our students a choice of four instruments wherever possible, and where availability permits, a variety of bows
  • The annual loan charge will be calculated and costs explained, and the Terms and Conditions of the loan will be explained both you and your Guarantor
  • You and your guarantor will sign the loan agreement and pay the deposit. You can then take the instrument away with you

Insurance

  • Within 24 hours you must insure the instrument/bow under your own Specialist Musical Instrument Policy and tell us your insurer’s name and the policy number
  • If an instrument/bow is uninsured after 24 hours, any loss, theft of damage which occur will be your financial responsibility, and you will be in violation of our Terms and Conditions
  • Information about insurance providers can be given at your appointment.
