What to expect?

If your application is successful:

  • You'll be invited to try out instruments and bows suited to your age and experience
  • Appointments are held at 11am and 2pm on weekdays and some Saturdays
  • Each session lasts 2 hours in our dedicated studio
  • Your teacher can join in person or via video call
  • Family members are welcome, but please limit to two or three guests
  • Before your appointment we'll ask you to set up a GoCardless direct debit for your monthly payments
  • All of this in the knowledge you're being supported every step of the way by an expert team including the head of our Loan Scheme

What to bring

  • Your guarantor needs to attend (or contact us to arrange another time)
  • Your current instrument, bow and music (not essential but helpful)
  • Photo ID and proof of address for both student and guarantor
  • Deposit payment

At the appointment

  • You’ll try up to four instruments and a selection of bows if applicable (subject to availability)
  • We’ll explain:
    • Your annual loan charge
    • The maintenance schedule
    • The need for specialist insurance (we can introduce you to our insurers, Lark Music, or you can choose your own)
  • You’ll sign the loan agreement and receive your instrument and case
  • Your monthly payments will begin via GoCardless

Costs – What You’ll Pay

Deposit

  • £200 for instruments with bows
  • Additional £100 for high-value bows
  • £200 for bows (if borrowing a bow only)
  • Deposits are returnable and can be paid by card.

Annual Loan Charge

  • Based on the instrument’s value
  • Minimum: £100 per year for instruments, £50 per year for bows
  • Maximum: £520 per year for instruments, £260 per year for bows
  • Includes a £99 per year maintenance fee
  • Paid monthly via GoCardless

Insurance

All our instruments are of a high quality, so you must insure your new instrument within 24 hours of your appointment. If you do not, you’ll be responsible for any loss or damage, and will be in breach of our Terms & Conditions.
