About Advanced Wind Chamber Music
This popular and friendly course explores a wide variety of music for smaller and larger wind ensembles in a supportive atmosphere.
What is the course about?
In this course, our specialist wind tutors, led by clarinettist Elizbaeth Drew, take you on a weekend whirlwind of wind chamber music. From duos to dectets, you'll discover a wide variety of repertoire in an encouraging and supportive atmosphere.
Within the context of ensemble playing, you will explore technique and stylistic interpretation, collaborating with fellow participants to develop your understanding and performance of selected repertoire.
The tutor team, including Liz Fyfe (oboe), Lisa Nelsen (flute), Mark Smith (horn) and Louise Watson (bassoon) will offer their insights and experience across the sessions. There will also be an opportunity to discuss instrument-specific questions in specialist classes led by each tutor over the course of the weekend.
The weekend as a whole, will give you the opportunity to stretch yourself and progress your performance.
What will you learn?
During the course you will cover a variety of key ensemble playing skills, including:
how to listen effectively
how to tune and balance a chord
how to play with more line and rhythmic precision
how to lift the music from the page
By the end of this course you will be able to play with greater confidence and also to direct your own rehearsals with greater purpose and effect.
How will the course be taught?
The course is taught in ensemble sessions with participants mixing throughout. Before each session, you’ll be assigned to a specific ensemble and tutor. Across the mixed group sizes, your tutors will carefully plan the repertoire, so you will be playing in every session.
