How will the course be taught?
We’ll work in a mix of smaller ensembles and whole group ‘tutti’ sessions with coaching and guidance throughout. Pre-existing ensembles are welcome. If you are attending as a solo musician, we’ll place you together with other musicians for the ensemble work. We will be playing at A=415.
Who is the course for?
We are looking for confident players of the following instruments, with good sight-reading ability: violin, viola, viola da gamba, cello, flute, recorder, oboe and harpsichord. Pre-existing ensembles are welcome. No prior experience in playing Baroque music is necessary.
Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?
A suggested repertoire list from the course tutors will be provided in advance though you are also encouraged to choose your own repertoire to bring along. Please bring your instrument and copies of the music with you.
You don’t necessarily need Baroque set-up instruments, but string players will find a Baroque bow very helpful. For harpsichordists, you may bring your own instrument if you wish, but we do have our own here that you are welcome to play.
