About Piano Duets with Nigel & Imma (3 Nights)

What is the course about?

Spend the weekend exploring your chosen repertoire, working on your interpretation and musicality. Tutors Nigel and Imma will help with develop your skills playing as a four-hand team, including improving ensemble, rehearsal techniques and how to actively listen and respond thoughtfully.

How will the course be taught?

You'll receive a mixture of sessions including, coaching for each duet group, masterclasses, workshop on piano duet related topics, piano ensemble activities, and a question and answer session. You’re also invited to join the very lighthearted piano duet pub quiz, and to perform alongside your peers in an informal and supportive concert at the end of the course. 

 

Who is the course for?

The course is designed for pianists who are keen to improve their sense of ensemble playing, and their ability to adapt their individuality within the close quarters of a piano duet team. 

You should be playing at the Confident of Skilful level. Please see our Ability Levels Explained for further details. 

Pre-formed duos who have been playing together for some time or are at the beginning of their journey are equally welcome. Individuals are welcome to apply and we will do our best to match you where possible. 

 

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

You will need to choose music for your duo to work on during the course. Please bring copies with you and inform us of your chosen repertoire at least one month before the start of the course. 

Recommended duet repertoire from the tutors is available on request. You will also find a range of music in the Benslow Music Library available to borrow during the course or in advance by Benslow Music Members. Additionally, IMSLP is wide-ranging online resource of scores and parts. 

The workshop session may include set pieces, which will be communicated and shared in ahead of the course. 

The course stands out because the quality of the teaching is so high. We really felt that we are developing our pianistic and duet skills.
