What is the course about?

Calling all horn players! This course, which works on rehearsal techniques, playing skills and understanding a wide variety of musical styles, is now established as a must for all who wish to progress their skills and have fun playing with others. Course leader, Donald Clist, is well known as an inspirational teacher of horn at all levels, having played for over 20 years with Welsh National Opera orchestra, he is now a freelance player, whose work focusses mainly on chamber music and solo performance.

 

What will you learn?

We will cover octets, quartets, trios and duets and repertoire for up to 16 horns. By the end of this course, you will have enjoyed preparing, rehearsing and performing horn ensemble pieces to a high level, and had an opportunity to focus in on technique and performance skills.

 

How will the course be taught?

We'll work in a group, splitting at times to play repertoire for various ensemble sizes. There will be opportunities to discuss technique throughout the course, with your course tutor Donald responding to your individual needs.

 

Who is the course for?

This course welcomes horn players of varying abilities from Grade 3 upwards. Participants should be confident playing in a group and willing to work hard but have fun.

 

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

Yes, music will be provided by the tutor when you arrive for the course. You are also welcome to bring your own ensemble music. Please bring your instrument and mute.
