About Spring Advanced Cello Orchestra

A springtime weekend to revel in cello ensemble music, led by tutor Jenny Curtis.

What is the course about?

Enjoy an encouraging weekend of music for cellos on mass! Working with Jenny Curtis, you’ll form a cello orchestra and explore a wide range of music, written in anything from three to eight parts. Repertoire will include pieces originally written for cello and works transcribed or adapted from other types of ensembles. Through this, you'll work on techniques and skills to improve your playing as well as approaches to interpretation, enabling you to give voice to a variety of musical styles.

What will you learn?

By the end of the weekend, you’ll have boosted your confidence and been able to ‘let yourself go’ as you play, embodying the pieces, thinking about the music and worrying less about individual notes.

Playing a variety of pieces for cello ensemble will explore techniques that will inform your playing. You'll work on ensemble playing and how to rehearse repertoire in depth, applying the techniques discussed throughout the course.

How will the course be taught?

You will stay together as one group throughout the weekend. Course repertoire will be set, with parts allocated in advance, suitable to your playing level.

Who is the course for?

This course is suitable for cellists playing at a Confident or Skilful level and who are looking to refine their ensemble playing. Please see our Ability Levels Explained for further details.

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

Music will be emailed to you ahead of the course. Jenny will allocate your parts, suitable to your playing ability level.

In addition, please bring your spike holder, a pencil suitable for making markings and a notebook for any notes your wish to make.

Very friendly, always helping you to play better in a constructive way, lots of fun!
