About Springtime Recorders

Step into Springtime Recorders, and fun and supportive course to improve your playing and technique.

What is the course about?

Boost your confidence in this wide-ranging course for intermediate level players led by highly-experienced tutor Alyson Lewin and Caroline Jones. 

Working largely in ensembles, including opportunities to play one-to-a-part, you'll cover music from the medieval period through the 21st century. You'll have the chance to refine you technique through sessions designed explore a range of skills. Across a range of supportive sessions, Alyson and Caroline will share insights and advice on how to approach the repertoire and develop your playing. 

 

What will you learn?

You’ll learn through exploring the wide recorder repertoire. Technique sessions will be taught practically using repertoire such as baroque trio sonatas, to explore cover breath control, finger technique, tonguing, phrasing and ornamentation.

By the end of this course you will be able to approach a wide range of music in a more informed manner with the knowledge to interpret the music and the technical ability to work on a piece and improve it.

 

How will the course be taught?

You'll learn together with fellow participants, playing in variety of group sessions, including large ensemble, smaller consorts and practical sessions working on technique through repertoire. 

 

Who is the course for?

The course is designed for recorder players playing at the Improver and Confident levels. Please see our Ability Levels Explained for further details. 

You should have reasonable sightreading skills and be comfortable playing at least two sizes of recorder. 

 

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

Music will be shared during the course and no advance preparation is required. 

You will need to bring you instruments and pencil. We encourage you to bring larger instruments for ensemble playing. Please confirm which size recorders you will bring when booking. 

You are also welcome to bring consort music to explore during one-to-a-part sessions.
