About String Orchestra

A string orchestra course led by members of the Tedesca Quartet and double bassist Caroline Harding.

What is the course about?

On this course, the Tedesca Quartet and Caroline Harding will lead you through playing a range of music written for string orchestra. We like to tackle works that people will rarely have had the chance to play, so repertoire for this course will be adventurous! This is an opportunity for you to learn and immerse yourself in the music.

What will you learn?

By the end of the course you will:

  • Have greater confidence in performing in a string orchestra
  • Understand the set works and their inner workings in more details
  • Develop further technical and musical skills required for large ensemble playing.

How will the course be taught?

Nic Fallowfield will lead and direct the string orchestra with sectional guidance from his colleagues from the Tedesca Quartet – Clare Bhabra, Richard Muncey and Jenny Curtis – and double bass tutor Caroline Harding. By playing alongside professional musicians, you will find there is always plenty of support, encouragement and guidance available.

Who is the course for?

Confident and Skilful violinists, violists, cellists, and double bassists. You will tackle a wide of range of repertoire, but even if you're not sure if you can manage every note, come along and relish the opportunity to explore and discover something new.

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

Music will be available in advance, and hard copies will be available to play from during the course. Information about accessing the sheet music, and how to prepare for the course, will be shared with you in advance of the start date.

Excellent choice of repertoire, friendly and welcoming tutors. Encouraging all round.
