About String Orchestra: Tippett Day
A one-day string orchestra course playing Michael Tippett's animated, heartfelt and thrilling Concerto for Double String Orchestra, led by members of the Tedesca Quartet.
What is the course about?
For one day, you will join The Tedesca Quartet's String Orchestra course as they coach you through playing Concerto for Double String Orchestra by Michael Tippett. We like to tackle works that people will rarely have had the chance to play, so this repertoire will be an adventure for everyone! This is an opportunity for you to learn and immerse yourself in the music in a short space of time.
What will you learn?
By the end of the course you will:
Have the opportunity to spend the day playing music for string orchestra
Develop greater confidence in performing in a string orchestra
Understand the set work and its inner workings in more details
Develop further technical and musical skills required for large ensemble playing.
How will the course be taught?
Nic Fallowfield will lead and direct the whole orchestra, with sectional guidance by his colleagues from the Tedesca Quartet – Clare Bhabra, Richard Muncey and Jenny Curtis – and a double bass tutor. By playing alongside professional musicians and your fellow participants from the longer String Orchestra course, you will find there is always plenty of support, encouragement and guidance available.
Who is the course for?
Confident and Skilful violinists, violists, cellists, and double bassists. Even if you're not sure if you can manage every note, come along and relish the opportunity to explore and discover something new in just one day.
Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?
Music will be available in advance, and hard copies will be available to play from during the course. Information about accessing the sheet music, and how to prepare for the course, will be shared with you in advance.
