About String Quartets with Bingham Quartet (2 Nights)

The Bingham Quartet return with another of their special weekends devoted to coaching pre-formed quartets.

What is the course about?

During this course members of internationally renowned Bingham String Quartet will each offer their expert advice and insights on your pre-formed quartet's chosen repertoire, as you work together to perfect your ensemble's playing in individual group sessions and masterclass settings. The course fee also includes a ticket given by Bingham Quartet on the Friday evening, allowing you to immerse yourself in both playing and enjoying some of the finest repertoire for string quartet.

This course offers a 2- and 3-night option.

What will you learn?

Detailed coaching is provided by the four members of the quartet on all aspects of chamber music playing, both technical and musical. The knowledge gained by the tutors over many years is used to great effect to enhance participants’ enjoyment of the course. By the end of this course, you will:

  • know more about your chosen repertoire.
  • have valuable gained tools to tackle any technical difficulties.
  • improve your musical interpretation.

How will the course be taught?

You will mainly work in private individual group sessions, joined by a single tutor at a time, but peer feedback will also be available through an open masterclass session. It is helpful if the group has prepared their chosen repertoire a little before the course, but not an absolute requirement.

Please note that any quartets wishing to arrange a pre-course playing room between 2.30pm-6.30pm on the first day must contact us at Benslow Music before the course to avoid disappointment. Rooms are free for members to book and available for a small charge to non-members.

Who is the course for?

This course is for pre-formed groups who are of Confident and Skilful ability, as outlined in our Benslow Guide to Ability Levels.

Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

You should bring your own music, or you can use the extensive Benslow Library while on campus. Please also bring your instruments.

The Binghams are always friendly and approachable and have a great ability to get the best out of the quartet being tutored.
