About Autumn Intermediate Strings

Become part of a newly formed orchestra in this joyful weekend course for intermediate string players. Hone your ensemble playing skills and learn new repertoire with friendly and welcoming coaching.

What is the course about?

This course gives you the opportunity to play as part of a newly formed string orchestra in a celebratory weekend tailored to intermediate string players. Enjoy tackling new repertoire for strings in a vibrant range of styles and keys, with friendly and encouraging coaching from mother and daughter musicians; violinist Janet Hicks and cellist Willie Hicks. Build your ensemble playing skills in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, where you’ll get to meet and collaborate with other like-minded musicians, and play together as an orchestra.

What will you learn?

By the end of the course you will: Gain professional tips and techniques to improve your playing both individually and as part of an orchestra Learn new musical repertoire and feel more confident in approaching a wide variety of styles Meet and play with other string musicians in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere

How will the course be taught?

We will work through the repertoire together as an ensemble, offering real experience playing as part of an orchestra. Some sectional rehearsals will be arranged if needed.

Who is the course for?

This course is designed for string players including viola, violin, cello and double bass. A minimum Grade 3 standard is recommended. What will you learn? Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?

We’ll share the course repertoire with you around six weeks in advance, so feel free to familiarise yourself with the sheet music before the course, but this isn’t essential. Please bring your instrument, as well as a pencil and eraser for you to make notes.
