What is the course about?
Embrace the festive season with joyful music-making and take part in our festive flute ensemble. Under the guidance of tutors Liz and Sarah, enjoy relaxed and fun ensemble sessions that explore a range of festive repertoire, from timeless carols to seasonal classics.
The course covers a variety of ensemble techniques, including warm-ups to improve tone, intonation, and articulation, as well as guidance on ensemble balance and listening skills. Players will have the chance to perform on piccolo, alto, and bass flutes where available, discovering the full colour and richness of the flute family.
What will you learn?
By the end of the course you will:
Enjoy a weekend of music-making with other flautists and leave feeling inspired and full of festive cheer.
Feel more confident playing and performing as part of an ensemble.
Discover a range of new musical arrangements and festive favourites.
Receive helpful tips and advice on flute technique, including intonation, tone and articulation from our expert coaches.
How will the course be taught?
We’ll work in one large group throughout, culminating in a final sharing of the works covered. There’ll be plenty of time for questions and help with individual issues where possible. We’ll cover use of piccolo, alto and bass flutes, and warm-ups and flute techniques, such as intonation, tone, and articulation.
Who is the course for?
We welcome flute players of all levels. We’ll find a part you’re comfortable with, no matter your playing level.
Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?
We will share music for the course repertoire with you in advance so you can familiarise yourself with them. It's helpful if you can run through it in advance, but not essential!
