Experience the joy of playing with others in large and small groups, maybe for the first time. Sharpen your musical skills and confidence in a fun environment, with supportive and friendly tutors.
What is the course about?
The course is all about gaining and developing experience as a woodwind player in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere, led by friendly, encouraging tutors. No previous experience playing with others is required as this will serve as an introduction to playing in a wind group and also in a smaller ensemble. Players with some experience in this field will also be welcome. You will work on music especially prepared for woodwind ensembles and different genres and styles of music will be explored. You will learn to sightread and blend with other instrumentalists, holding a line. Most importantly we will work to boost your confidence and bring enjoyment to your playing!
What will you learn?
By the end of the course, you will:
Play as a member of a group with confidence
Apply a range of new practical tips and techniques that may have previously seemed daunting
Listen and respond to other musicians in a group with some sensitivity and nuance
Find enjoyment in group music making and to feel inspired to carry on playing with others
How will the course be taught?
You will play in a small ensemble and as part of the whole group. Tutors will offer coaching and advice throughout the course and will play along with you or help individuals. There will be opportunities to try several pieces and in different combinations. The course will end with an informal play through to celebrate all you have achieved.
Who is the course for?
We welcome players of flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon with little experience of playing with others.
You should be around Learner level according to Benslow Music standards, with knowledge of a range of notes on your instruments and the ability to read musical notation with the range of notes you can play
Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?
Music will be provided on the course. You are welcome to make suggestions or bring pieces with you, but we will not be expecting this. We will provide music appropriate to your standard.
