What is the course about?
This string orchestra course is designed for string players of an intermediate standard who would like to gain experience and confidence in string ensemble playing. The repertoire will comprise string music and arrangements for strings in a variety of styles, and in keys which could range from four sharps to four flats. Working under the highly experienced and kind tuition of Janet and Willie Hicks, you’ll play alongside a friendly group of fellow string musicians of a similar standard.
What will you learn?
During the course, you will:
Play string music of several genres
Work on technical and musical aspects required to improve your performance
Develop confidence in playing music in an ensemble
By the end of this course, you will have enjoyed being part of a satisfying musical experience.
How will the course be taught?
You’ll mostly work in one group with the option of a sectional rehearsal if it’s needed.
Who is the course for?
This course is for string players of at least Improver or Grade 3 standard.
Will music be provided and do you need to prepare or bring anything?
Your music will be sent to you in advance for you to practice before the course. Please print this and bring it with you, along with your instrument, a rehearsal pencil and a rubber.
Excellent choice of music at right level for intermediate players. Tutors were very welcoming and inclusive. Sessions were well paced, just the right amount of challenge.
